dad’s day.

Happy Father’s day to the most amazing dad this little girl could ask for! Lex is already a daddy’s girl- and I can’t blame her- mikes pretty swell. We took these pictures and had them framed for our most favorite dad ever.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dad’s out there (Including MY dad. I happen to also be a daddy’s girl… Still).

FIVE THINGS

I’m linking up with some adorable bloggers to bring you five on friday this week. Just five random things from this week. Ready-Set-Friday!

Brought to you by the lovely ladies behind: The Good Life. A. Liz Adventures. Carolina Charm. & Hello! Happiness.

ONE. Earlier this week apple announced IOS7. And being the slight tech geek that I am I was over the moon excited about all the amazing tweaks and sleek new look- and I will be so so anxiously awaiting its release this fall (can we talk about how unfair it is that they tease us like this?! Fall is forever away).

TWO. Lex and I signed up for a dance class starting this fall (apparently the fall season is going to bring lots of fun stuff). We’re preparing by perfecting lex’s tutu wearing skills. She has yet to complain about mandatory tutu play time.

THREE. Last week the sequel to the devil wears prada came out- after a quick refresh course I’m knee deep into revenge wears prada and so far I’m loving it (and it’s ability to make 40 minutes on the stair-master fly by).

FOUR. A few weeks back I learned about this tanning lotion from vanessa. I have to admit I’m a faux-tan-novice but was excited about her review and blown away by the product! Easy to use? Check! Natural looking? Check! Not streaky? Check! Legs & belly not so scary white? Check! Check! I seriously HATE tanning lotions- and am such a sun lover its never usually a problem- but this summer i’ve been lacking the “sit by the pool with a book” time i usually have. enter the fake bake tanning line- it came with a mitt, was easy to use, and i’m not all weirdly orange and splotchy. 100% win.

FIVE. Pinterest lately is making me want a jean vest. I NEVER thought I’d say those words again… And I really wish I’d kept mine from the 7th grade.

Sara - I love mommy and me dance classes!!!!!!! It’s seriously amazing. I want to come. Buttttttttttttt I’m pretty sure that’s overkill!

And seriously – need to pick up the book! I’m so intrigued! Come on summa’time!

Vanessa - I’m so glad you like the Fake Bake!!! I’m always nervous to recommend products because I’m afraid people will spend the money and then hate it (ha!), but that one was just too good not to share!

And I am with you on the jean jacket trend. I’m pretty sure my sister’s old one is still in her closet at my parents’ house. Hmmm… :)

Colleen - I think you could definitely pull off the jean vest thing! I think I might look a little like some biker person, but I think you’d know just the right way to wear it!

I’m so jealous (in a happy for you way!) that you two get to take dance lessons together! I don’t think my husband would approve of Owen and I doing ballet together.

FIFTEEN MONTHS.

Age- 15 months

Favorite Foods- Lex LOVES food. She’s growing like a weed, and eating like a teenage boy. Some of her favorite foods are: black beans, strawberries, cheese, pizza, spaghetti, chicken, and blackberries.

Favorite Words- I can’t believe this kids vocab! I swear every day we hear at least 5 new words, and its seriously the cutest to watch her move her mouth to say new things. i absolutely love this age! Our favorite words are: cheese, hi, ok, ya, strawberry, grandpa, beach ,keys, ball, baby & cold.

Favorite Things- Lex is 100% girl. She LOVES necklaces and most recently bracelets- most mornings she begs for me to put jewelry on her, and walks around with one arm up when wearing bracelets so they don’t fall off. We have the Fisher Price Purse and i’ll never forget the first day she threw it over her arm and walked around the house with it. These mini-pantone-color books are our new favorite things to read, lex will repeat the words or do hand motions while we’re reading.

Favorite Activities- Lex loves brushing her teeth and putting make up on (i’m telling you she’s such a girl). Each morning she helps me get ready, we both brush our teeth, put on makeup, and play in the sink. We love throwing balls for tucker and just carrying tuckers toys around in general. Our animals are going to get SO FAT with lex around- she’s constantly feeding them treats and they love her for it! she’s also crazy social with other kids- she smiles, waves, and then tries to play with anyone smaller than an adult

Not So Favorite Activities- Wearing bike helmets, wearing life jackets, getting molars & when her ipod runs out of battery.

Signature Moves- We have an assortment of random animal noises- an owl, bunny, shark, bird, lion, monkey & sheep- seriously SUCH random animals! Lex also waves and says “hiiiiiii” to every single stranger we pass when we’re out. She’s definitely not shy, and a total social butterfly.

Moms Favorite Moment- every morning lex and i get ready together- seeing her do her makeup and flirt with herself in the mirror cracks me up!

Dads Favorite Moment- taking lexi kayaking for the first time on the lake was amazing- she kept yelling “woo! woo!” because she loved being on the water so much!!

Sara - So much personality in this little one. She’s growing up too fast though!! I love that she’s so girly, but letsbereal, did she have any other choice? Mama has great style!

Heather - OMG!!! She totally does look like a teenager. She is growing up ssssooo fast and she is doing it will being beautiful. Can’t wait to hear all these new words :)

Colleen - She sounds like quite the talker!! There is nothing more sweet than hearing words come out of there sweet little mouths, huh? Like, in a bitty little toddler voice!

donut day.

As i’m sure everyone knows friday was national donut day. Just about the best day EVER, and one of the most delicious days to celebrate. Lex and i got up friday morning and busted out the donut maker so we could make and decorate donuts. As usual i did all the work, and she just begged and pleaded for me to feed her frosting. In an effort to be healthy we decided to make agave-sweetened plain donuts (and then make them un-healthy by coating them in strawberry icing and sprinkles).  This isnt my first time making these donuts- and while they’re definitely not as delicious as regular donut-shop donuts, they’re still pretty tasty!

AGAVE- SWEETENED PLAIN DONUTS:

you’ll need:

- 1/3 cup melted coconut oil
- 3/4 cup rice flour
- 1/3 cup sorghum flour
- 1/2 cup potato starch
- 1/4 cup arrowroot
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp xanthan gum
- 3/4 cup agave
- 6 tablespoons applesauce
- 1/4 cup vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup hot water.

first whisk together the flours, potato starch, arrowroot, baking powder, salt, baking soda & xanthan gum. Add your agave, coconut oil, applesauce, vanilla & hot water and mix until its nice n smooth. I always put the batter into a large ziplock, snip a corner and squeeze it into the donut molds like that. Wait 2-3 minutes and presto! you have delicious donuts. Let cool and frost (if you want, but they’re also delicious if you brush them with melted vegan butter and sprinkle stevia & cinnamon on them–which is WAY healthier than our frosting!).

Next time we make donuts (which will probably be like tomorrow) we’ll be making the Tone It Up donuts. Way simpler, better ingredients, and i LOVE their perfect fit protein powder, so i’m sure they’ll be tasty. . . and maybe we’ll ditch the frosting (which lex totally wont approve of).

julie - That’s my girl Lex…the frosting is the BEST part!

Emily - Umm.. hello these sound great! Need to try them ASAP! You are seriously going to have the best photo albums of Lex’s childhood!!! GREAT PICS, per usual!!!

FIVE ON FRIDAY

I’m linking up with some adorable bloggers to bring you five on friday this week. Just five random things from this week. Ready-Set-Friday!

Brought to you by the lovely ladies behind: The Good Life. A. Liz Adventures. Carolina Charm. & Hello! Happiness.

1. We went to a dodger game last night on a double date with one of our all-time favorite couples. Mike’s family has season tickets- that we dont use nearly often enough (especially considering the fact that they are AMAZING seats). And cotton candy was involved- yes I demolished an entire stick of cotton candy. We even got some action and almost caught a ball- Sara’s hand knocked it away from mikes face and straight into the hands of the dude in front of us. And she has the swollen fingers to prove it!

2. If your looking for some amazingly non-annoying kids music- look no further than Caspar babypants. I LOVE THIS MAN. His musical stylings get lex dancing and bopping, and don’t annoy me in the least. We have 2 albums and I fully plan to purchase more. He’s also in The Presidents of the United States of America- i LOVE rock-stars turned kids musicians!  He just might be raffi 2.0.

3. Lexi’s BFF Fiona is getting a baby brother (and yes. these two travel via wagon sporting their sunnies often). Stephanie (one my all-time favorite mom friends) is the first one of our play group to be pregnant with number two! Her husband couldn’t make it to their doctors appointment (he was busy saving lives. How annoying)- so they did gender reveal cupcakes. And I was an integral part and got to call the bakery to deliver the gender news. We are SO excited for them to welcome a little boy this thanksgiving!

4. Molars ruined my week. Lex is not a sweet, quick, “didnt know she was getting teeth!” Teether. It’s slow, painful, and quite honestly whiny. And our week has been filled with whining. And molar-getting. And pink cupcakes. And pig-tails. The cupcakes are really the only things keeping us sane around here.

5. I’m a lululemon girl through and through. Every-single- piece-of work out gear I own is lulu. Until now. I fell in love with the color of these beyond yoga pants and had to give them a try. And I could live in them. Soft material, the perfect stretch, and really just the perfect pant- i may never take them off and I fully plan on getting them in every color (bring on the neon!).

SLH - Hello from the link-up! I am definitely going to try out those yoga pants! :)

Emily - What a fun double date! Lex and her friend in the wagon with their shades, kill me!!!! so, so cute! I feel your pain in the molar department they trump all teeth..the worst! Hang in there Momma ad keep the cupcakes flowing!ha Love the yoga pants, need them. Happy Weekend, Friend!

C Mae - New to your blog! I am going to give those yoga pants a look and see what they are all about! :) Everytime I try to buy lulu pants/crops they sell out of my size in an instant!
